In one of my tanks I had a horrible trumpet snail problem. Thousands of them. More snails than a puffer could eat in its lifetime. Eh, a picture is worth a thousand words.

eh, its a crummy pic, but you can see how I have so many snails, tha tsome of my snails have snails (and their snails have snails...)

I tried numerous natural methods to get rid of these such as removing food supply and introducing predators... neither of which put a dent in the population... Snail problem got so bad, that the snails were leaving the tank, and ending up in various places in my house!

So, rather than introducing harmful chemicals to my fish to wipe these buggers out, I decided to set up an identical tank, minus the snails. Put in new substrate, transfered over filter (cleaned everything but bio media) and added an additonal seeded filter from another tank. Its a beautiful tank btw, you guys would love it. BUt, thats for another topic.

So, now I have this empty tank with thousands upon thousands of trumpet snails. I need to kill these buggers. Now, i want to know, what is the most humane way to kill them? I know they are just snails, but mass genocide always makes me feel bad.

Boiling hot water will kill them on contact and is the quickest way i know of to kill such things

Escargot anyone? ;D

Could open up a restaurant, man! :D

I'd go with boiling water as well. I wouldn't dump boiling water in the tank, but take the gravel out and put the boiling water on it. Not sure how you'd remove the dead snails from the gravel, but if you aren't planning on re-using the gravel, just throw it all away.

Or dump a ton of salt in the tank!

throw them at ppl's window during halloween. save on the eggs
