Many years ago, my wife found a badly injured yellow belly slider. She brought it home, and insisted I care for it despite me feeling it should be euthanized. We couldn't take it to a vet because it was considered an invasive species in the state and it would just be euthanized. I managed to help it recover, and it became out pet (despite me never wanting a turtle to begin with). Time passes, and my wife decides the turtle is lonely, and finds it a friend, a baby red ear slider off of craigslist. (I assured her turtles don't get lonely). The two turtles didn't get along, with the much larger yellow belly slider trying to attack the baby. Due to this, I had to have two separate turtle setups, and was no longer able to keep fish. I really miss having fish.
So now, I'm taking care of two turtles that I never really wanted to begin with. I'd really want to find them a good home, but it seems impossible to find someone who both A: Wants a slider turtle and B: has the means and willingness to provide proper care for them. I also have a baby now who keeps trying to get to them, and would really just rather the turtles go to a good home. Is there a good way to find a new home for these turtles, or am I pretty much stuck with them until they eventually pass on from old age? My wife keeps bring up wanting to release them in an area they are native; I keep telling her it is a terrible idea for many reasons.
I'm located in Seattle, if that is any good help for resources.
