what is the best way to test free ammonia

ok so my tank shows very hi ammonia however my water conditoner is prime. soi think i may be getting high false readings as my wat er is pretty high

You should not have any ammonia/ammonium regardless so something is wrong. There are ammonia tests (I think seachem makes one) you can also get a seachem ammonia alert that is cheap and reads just ammonia

Mardel also makes an ammonia test product similar to Seachem's ammonia alert, but IMO Mardels is slightly better as it tests free ammonia down to 0.0
