Hi
What is the difference between the Convict Parrot Cichlids and the pink dwarf jelly bean convict? Is the pink dwarf jelly bean convict also known as a pink Convict? and will the pink dwarf jelly bean convict breed with a normal Convict?

I am now very Confused I really hope you guys can help...:nilly:

I have never even heard of a dwarf pink jelly bean convict...i am no where near an expert (heck even an amateur) on cichlids, but I will suggest posting pics so the real experts can tell you what you need to know

You might want to post this in the hybrid or breeding section.

I've heard of the parrot cichlid, which gets much bigger than the jelly bean. I've never heard of them called convict parrot though. The jelly bean parrot is not naturally the color that you buy them. They are stripped of their slime coat and dyed. They also stay much smaller than your regular parrot. The regular parrot is not treated and has a natural color of orange and some other variations. I don't know if this is the fish you are talking about.

I found some pics of what I think you are talking about. The jellybeans looked like they are dyed. They are still listed under ARCHOCENTRUS NIGROFASCIATUS, so I would guess that they would probably mate.

AMPHILOPHUS CITRINELLUM is the convict parrot cichlid. The jellybeans are dyed the pink color that you see them. The regular parrot cichlid is not dyed and still listed under the name AMPHILOPHUS CITRINELLUM.

Jellybean convicts are just shortbodied pink convicts, there's no parrot in them. Try breeding a parrot and another fish, you're not going to get a bunch of roundbodied fry.

Jellybeans are called such because they are short, rounded and colored, just like jellybeans. They are juiced and the colors will fade. In my experience in dealing with wholesale fish suppliers, both parrots and short body (white) convicts are passed off as jellybean parrots.
