what is the lifespan of a South American Dragon Goby

My poor SA Dragon Goby tied today He was 4 years old I was wondering the average lifespan of these fish I want to see if he died young or old. PS What are some really cool fish for a 50 gall tank to get for a replacement.

Lifespan should be 10-15years. 50g sounds a little small for a fish with a max size of 24" (the largest I've ever seen was around 18"). Was the tank brackish or freshwater? They need salt as they age, and I've heard of adults in full marine tanks.
