Here.
I currently have a 72x32x24 tank and was wondering if this could house a pair of motoro for a while. If so, how long?

Thanks, your comments are always appreciated!

Best,
Jeff

hi,i have found with the motoro`s that i keep and have kept it is down to genetics some marbles and royals i find stay smaller than some of the standard mot`s.
i think really that it is down to how fast they are growing and for you to watch and see when u think they will need to upgrade you have a good width of tank so just watch! lol

will

I JUST saw the sticky... about minimum size... I wonder if the 4" difference in Depth will be a huge problem.

that is a great size tank for several years for a pair of motoros.

possibly a male for a long time if not life. a female for maybe 5 years.

i have a 3 year old male that is only 10" diamter with a length of like 20"
i also have a female that is the same age and is 14" diameter with a 25" length

24", to me, is the ideal depth for raykeeping. I like to get in and feed them, though, and I will be building a pond with a deeper point than that. 24" is perfectly fine for rays. :)

What do you think about the 32" Wide? I JUST got this tank and would want to keep them in there for the maximum amount of time (within reason of course).

that is the MOST important dimension with rays.... 32" is a great dimension for some time.

Depends on how many rays you are planning on keeping in there. If, like you said, you plan on stopping with 2 motoros you are all set. You will probably need to replace the tank, but not for a long time (and we're talking years here, a couple at minimum).

If you can provide a bigger environment, I think you should go bigger. You may want to get more rays in the future (short of a horrible loss, you can bet the farm on it). Even if you don't want to get more, won't you be able to sleep better at night knowing that you got them a bigger water palace than was necessary? This is going to be their world for the next few years.

I'm not trying to be too touchy-feely, but these are smart and curious creatures and as far as space is concerned, the more the better. :headbang2
