I was doing a water change, and I run the siphon thorough a long hose out into the yard. I leave a crack in the sliding glass doorway for the hose exit to the yard.
A giant cricket was on the carpet outside of the door, and made a hop onto the track looking to get into the house. I caught it in a cup, and decided I'd feed it to the bowfins/ Florida gar tank. Immediately upon hitting the water, I noticed what I thought at first was the cricket taking a poop in my tank, and was shocked, as I had never seen anything like it. It was very much like a pleco poop extremely long, but much thinner.
I kid you not, it was at least 6" or more before it finally dropped out of the cricket! Then the real horror, it started thrashing about in the tank, and was no question alive!
It was reddish brown, over 6" and as thin or thinner than a 2mm piece of pencil lead.
Any idea what got loose in my tank?
