Flowerhorn x Black Belt? Anyone tried this breeding? I wanna see the result
I know it would be a type of kamfa but what would it look like...

F1 Kamfa - most of them will be very ugly with a few good selection of fish out from it. It all depends how strong and dominant is the father genes that will play a role in diluting that Vieja blood. Vieja blood themselves, are a very dominant gene when it comes to playing in the flowerhorn world. One thing for sure though, 90% - 100% of your frys will have the tail of a Vieja. And that's something just about everyone wants in terms of tail wise. If you really want to cross with a Vieja, use a Syn instead of a Black Belt. It'll throw out some better looking frys instead of that funky ugly looking because of the undesirable trait from the Black Belt. Or you can do a Regani if you can get your hand onto one. Unless you want to test out an Argentae if you can get it to cooperate without heavy fighting. Just a reminder - don't expect them to pair up easily due to the fact that a Black Belt is a pure cichlid, and they usually pair up naturally. Good luck...

Yeah it is a pain to pair any pure vieja with anything including themselves imo. I have a male and female synspilum that pair off but after a while she gets scared him so I have to separate the two he is with one of my PRQ females at the moment and she's ready spawn with him and he show little or no interest. I have used the PRQ to spawn with fh x red devil/midas and a fader fh in the past w/o a problem. Only time will tell Patience it the key.

I think I am goin to try and pair my thai silk male to my female black belt through a divider. ThaiSilk.JPG

here is my male

I've seen a couple most don't look that great when young they will be very plain colored but some do get nice patterns when there mature

I put the thai and the female together and as of now she is a bit much for him she is mabey 2" larger than him they still court through the divider the way I have them divided the water flows from his side to hers so in the event she lays his man juice can still fertilize them I just have to wait n see what happens

i have a hard time trying to breed with a divider i dont see how other ppl pull it off

Heres my theory
The overflo on one side of a glass divider and the return on the other that way water is flowing in one direction so i put the male on the return side and the female on the other I have the bottom of the divider lifted w/ suction cups and a ceramic tile square for a breeding surface and hopefully they pair up and she will lay on her side of the tile and the male seeing this will try to spawn on his side and the curent will push his man juice to her side and on the eggs. It sounds good so i think it is worth a shot. Eggcrate dividers are open and the current will just flow through it a glass divider will push the water water from one side to the other more directly

So now all I have to do is :popcorn::popcorn:
