just want some ideas on the best set up for my two babies in the near future.. what is ideal for them.. should i add plants . foods?? .what size tank should i start off with and what size tank should i max out with.. how deep should the water be and what temperture> anything you can help me with will be great..doing it right hopefully the first time... for my painted babies!!:DHere is their picture..

Petco,go there they sell actuall turltle tanks that have the side filter and they have a log looking thing in the back ground that the turtles can get up on so to get out of the water, they are actually really nice,i had one when i had my turtle,i think i had the 20,they look awsome and turtles love them,if you dont want to go that way then ,id start out with at least a 20 long, add some real plants and of course a nice place for them to get up out of the water on,for now you can give them crickets, small feeders, turtle pellets ect.ect.,the min tank size when their bigger would be like a 220,something long and semi wide, really you can make the water as deep as u desire, temps around 70-80 for water

a 75 that is lightly planted with plastic plants should be fine:)

Is that for life of two painted turtles?

You have to have a basking area, with a UV A/B bulb. You also need alot of filtration, at least twice that recommended for fish, but the current can't be to strong. I have a submursable filter for a 50 gallon tank, and another for a 10 gallon, with about 20 gallons of water. I have the spray bar turned up, to stir up the water, and to lessen the current. If you can find a 55 to start, that would be great. Remember, turtles are dirtier than fish, and you will have to do frequent water changes. I also keep plants in mine, for him to munch on, and play in.

Thank you...could i see some pictures of yours??? thats great ..i have just about everything i need already.. i am not setting it up for them yet though.. they are still tiny and i like hanging out with them all day long and bringing them outside with me etc.. after i get them settled in the tank they will be in the fish room.. downstairs.. :(look how cute they are! Also can they have any compatable tank mate..any suggestions?

I am still working on it, I will be getting a backround, more filtration, so I can fill it up more, and a floating basking area. I had sand in it, then found out sand can be deadly. It is not recommended to keep fish with turtles, that being said, I am using the turtle tank to grow out a Chinese algae eater, and it is currently the home of 2 Spotted Raphaels.
