What is the real difference between Semaprochilodus insignis and S. taeniurus?

I haven't been able to find any good info on identifying between the two. Some say that S. insignis lose their spots and get red coloration on their faces, but I have found multiple pictures of fish with red faces and no spots labeled "Semaprochilodus taeniurus," so I'm confused.

Looks like pretty much the same info I've been finding... "They are easily distinguished by the absence of black scales and a bulkier body on adult specimens of the insignis." The problem is, they don't say what size/age they are considering "adult..."
