i ve been reading, and it looks like 1 tablespoon per ten gallons for my columbian sharks, dinosaur eel and tsnXrtc.

so added 12 tablespoons for my 125. is this ok or should i add/subtract for my first time adding salt?

ummmm what kind of salt are you thinking of adding???

Cause unless they are sick you dont have to add aquarium salt. It can actually cause more problems for your hybrid. as it can affect respiration, (someone correct me if im wrong)

The columbian sharks are a brackish fish so you would use salt water salt for those, but not if you have the hybrid in with them, and many people successfully keep columbian sharks in full freshwater without problems.

I dont know what you mean by dinosaur eel. Ive seen Polypterus senegalus and Gobioides broussonnetii labeled as such. One is brackish and the other is not. so that would help to know as well.

shortly after adding the salt one columbian shark died, really upset he was the first cat i got. i put him in the 29 gallon and soon as i noticed something was wrong but it was too late. i added sea salt because i have a gray birich(dinosaur eel) i have read they are brakish water and so are the columbian sharks. i have also read that some salt is good for the hybrids because it helps with skin problems. so i added salt and the rest of the fish look fine. lesson learned.

my saltinity monitor reads 2.7, think i am going to do a water change. or should i leave it?

my other shark is dying. what can i do ..i put him in the 29 and i am doing another whater change.

ok, bichir eels are not brackish fish they are 100% freshwater, as are the rest of your fish in that tank from what i can see. The sharks are most likely dying because you added too much salt all at once. They went from pure freshwater to salt water. They have to be slowly acclimated to salt water. Its almost like taking a person and putting them in water. You could put the shark in the 29 so long as it is not salt water, but i dont know if it will work or not.

As far as salt being good for hybrids i dont really know. I've never read anything about that. All the people on here that keeps them doesnt add salt as far as i know. Necro has a 3' hybrid and its full fresh.

I think small daily water changes would be the best solution as of right now.

i think it was too much to soon. the only ones that were effected were the columbian cats. i done 3 water changes last night it was first time dealing with salt should have stuck if it is not broke dont fix it rule. it did not bother any of the others.

im glad to hear that none of the other fish were harmed. Im sorry about the one loss. I would stay away from the salt for sure. Like you said if it aint broke dont fix it.

2.7?

I think if you want to keep those catsharks then they need their own setup. Never put all that salt in at once. If you get more catsharks then start them in fresh and you can slowly raise it week by week. Or month by month, sence little ones can be in fresh I think when they reach the 5-6" mark thats when you should start to add the salt to their own tank.
