What is the smallest ATF or armatus?

H. Scomberoides is the smallest payara reaching about a foot. H. Forskahlii is the smallest ATF according to Chixculub our ATF expert here, but I don't know a max size.

Chub_by is correct in his diagnosis of the smallest species. Fatf are the smallest and slowest growing of the atf by far, even in the wild a fish of 18" and five pounds or so is rare.

If you like payaras but don't have the means to keep them, another fish you should consider is the very closely related characins of the genus Charax. These fish are for all intents and purposes mini-payara complete with the impressive dentition, but which rarely get over 6" long. They pop up for sale on here fairly regulary. Mike, aka f22 from Rt 4 Aquarium, had some not too long ago, and might still.

There is a sabolo barracuda that is pretty cool as well I don't think they get real big but not for sure. Defiantly a cool fish. Have you guys ever had one.

Those barracuda are what is known as a Brycon dentex. Mean little cusses that are pretty much a smaller Dorado. They top out at about a foot. They, too, pop up fairly often in the For Sale section and the Vendors section.
