In the size that Silver dollars and Red Hooks acquire???I ask because i bought an adult Silver dollar 6 monthes ago at 4 inches,he is about 6-7 inches now.Meanwhile i bought a Red Hook2 monthes ago at about 2 inches, and no kidding he is almost the same size as my Silver Dollar.A friend of mine at work just got rid of a Red Hook he had for 6 yrs,and this fish had to be at least 10 inches,so what is the normal growth of these great fish???Thanks guys!!!

one thing to think about is food competition...

if your red hooks get more food than your silvers during feedings this could explain the growth rate....

next time watch them to see who gets more food....

Okay, here the problem is that there are at least three types of Myleus sold as silver dollars, the argentini 6", hypauchen 6 1/2", and the maculatus 7 1/4", and there are several others and myeus that are sometimes mis-labelled.
Then there is the Mylopus rubripinnis or red hook, a much larger fish that can reach almost 16"

What Guppy said...

Find out what type you have.

Well the fish sold to me as a plain "Silver Dollar"kinda resembles the Red Hook, but minus the hook.I also have a small spotted "Silver Dollar",i am wondering how big this guy gets. Also there really isnt too much info out there on these guys, does anyone know a good site that does show all the different species of "dollars"

Fishbase.org is a good start. go to tools>identification>boney fish>characins>pictures

The spotted silver dollars is Metynnis maculatus and gets to just over 7".
The most commonly sold (that I have seen) were Metynnis argenteni and get about 5 1/2"
