What is this cichlid

Yes one of the Herichthys, could be cyanoguttatus, or carpintus, or hybrid of both.
Here is a carpintus.

Their colors can vary depending on mood, or breeding status.
Here is the same one as above in breeding color on the right female left.

And now another species of Herichthys, this time H tamasopoensus

I agree with Gourami Swami that it looks an awful lot like a Texas but it has that shorter, rounder body that suggests a hybrid. That's most likely with a blood parrot. It could be a full blood carpintis but I don't think so just based on the body shape. I could be wrong.

It would be interesting to see what this fish looks like as it matures.

Short bodied fish commonly occur in normal spawns. It’s a spinal deformity. Short bodied fish don’t always mean they are hybrids. It seems like the trendy thing to do now is call anything short-bodied a parrot hybrid, since that body shape is now easily identifiable to most hobbyists as a blood parrot. I am seeing lots of stores doing that with convicts now as a way to market deformed fish to the unsuspecting hobbyist.

Either way it is not a normal Herichthys and I wouldn’t use it for breeding at all if you do own it.

What a shame. :(
