It needs to be in brackish now but depending on its size, it'll need full marine conditions as an adult around 2ft.

They won't necessarily die but they won't be as happy. I haven't heard if anyone keeping them in fw long term

FW bad, BW good, some say marine better. I have personally kept them for years, happily I think, in low end BW, 1.003-1.006 or so.
