I was thinking Gold Skink, but then I noticed the scales were funky; most likely a Plated Lizard.

he looks kinda pitiful sitting it the plastic tub on news-paper..

I love reptiles, and seeing that whoever is taking care of him didn't take the time to find out what he was he's probably not getting the right care.
