So got this one about a year ago from a guy who had a parrot and a Texas breed. From what I understand that would make this a Kirin Parrot? From photos I can find online it doesn't seem to be the same though? Can anyone confirm this is either a Kirin or something else? I also have a blood parrot in the tank with it and they seem to be getting frisky lately so want to know what might be the outcome of them if they do manage to produce.

This would just be a Parrot x Texas cross. A Kirrin parrot is when a Flowerhorn and parrot cross breed. They are most often made from the Red Dragon flowerhorn and stay with that type of color/pattern but with a fat BP body. Still it is a nice looking fish and has a more natural look to it compaired to a regular BP.

It's pretty tough to predict what he is.

Blood parrots are hybrid of red devil and vieja. The odd shape they get is I assume because of hybridization of distantly related species.

Flowerhorns were supposedly made using breeding midas, trimac and blood parrots.

Kamfas are made using one of the few types of flowerhorn and parrot/vieja.

Red texas you see in market are mix of blood parrots and green texas, where parrot don't pass on defects or shape, just the color and some original species traits.

The one you have here while interesting might be short body version of some hybrid. Just the characteristics it shows might not be enough/good indicator of ancestry.

Sooo it happened! I have eggs. Both fish seem to be spending equal time over the eggs however the red texas seems to be female? Which means these eggs will most likely be useless right?
