Not sure if this is the right section but what is this hair looking stuff on my driftwood? Is it algae? If it's not, is it harmful to my fish?

The wood has been in the tank for about 2 weeks.

I got a similar growth on some rocks that I collected and boiled, I guess even boiling for 10 minutes misses some stuff! I just sucked it off with a turkey baster and it didn't return

Weird, I don't have any of this stuff on my rocks.

yup hao, i also have those on my driftwood. Don't think its harmful to the fishes

In wood talk, those are pubes. :)

That is very natural and it's not harmful at all, the fish will eat them. My tank has a driftwood that's been there for six months and I only saw it at the beginning(first 2 weeks to a month), but right after I added fish in it "vanished." I just redid my tank while fish were absent and the fungus started to grow again.

If you look closely, it's still present on my driftwood right now... but the fish will eat it... soon... I hope... :D

Type of wood fungus. It is harmless to aquatic life. Just clean the wood under some hot running water. I have seen this on my bogwood over the years from time to time and never had any ill=effects on fish or other aquatic life from it.

Just suck it out when doing a water change. I don't think it's harmful to fish. I have seen it on my tank when I overfeed but lack of water movement.
