Came across this while on the net http://www.livingcolor.com/custom_reefs.cfm
what do you think it is made of ?
do you think it is possible to diy it?
I found it interesting since i dont want to pay for 900 lbs of live rock (bit pricey:WHOA:)
I also heard about argocrete which is basically argonite sand + some cement which you mold in rock shapes and the stuff becomes live after being submersed for a while (garf.org)
Do you think it is possible for sculpted foam covered in argocrete to actually become "live" ?
What do u guys think, thaught it might be possible to save major$$$ plus the rock looks like whatever u want it to look like!

its possible to do that. i wouldnt know though. consider the weight of the end product. you might have to build in place, or build in sections so you can get it into the tank. i have no idea what they would be makin that out of. lol looks cool though. i will be paying attention to this thread lol.

after all on the link they make some of these like 20ft high so no way its cement
defenitively think its foam but no idea what they put on top

Do you guys think it is possible to stick argonite on top of the still wet epoxy?
this would allow for bacteria and algee to grow on it

Actually, those sculptures are referred to as "Rock Work" and thats what we use in exhibits. It's not actual rock, as you would imagine, its artificial rock composed of lightweight reinforced fiberglass concrete that is sprayed into mesh forms (like on vertical walls), or molds of actual rocks for floors of the exhibits. Pretty simple. LOL.

thanks for the info, is it possible to make ur own "lightweight reinforced fiberglass concrete"
