Found this pic in a german magazine. Is this a type of ray? a disfigurment or condition? a stage in ray growth? Or (and im really hoping this is not the case) are this rays modified by man??? the caption is all in german and i have no idea what it says.

looks like a modifyed motoro. Do you have what the whole caption says in the picture im trying to translate it but im not comming up with anything that is in relation to the ray.

It is a birth defect. They are known as batman rays.

It is due to a genetic defect or a developmental issue. It happens more often than you would think to some degree (could be as little as the two halves of the disc margin not being completely fused).

They don't seem to make it to adulthood.

i heard there really sought after people pay good money for them

That is true. But it is a genetic defect and is something to avoid if you are a real keeper. It's an abnormality that is just the lack of development. Teh condition leads to other biological issues....usually resulting in early death.
Kind of like the white tiger....to some a rare collectable....to others a genetic mutation that needs to be stopped before it corrupts the solid part of the gene pool.

It's an old color picture of one of Hitler's last gasp weapon's. it's a cross between a FW-190 and a sting ray.
