i just got a new 240gal tank today, and it came with a complete setup. and im wanting to know what this is, is it for saltwater or fresh or both?

No, your best bet is to figure out what brand it is and how to test it then put it up for sale. I would recomend posting a picture of it over at www.reefcentral.com and ask for help identifying it.
