Anyone know what kind of coral is this, I know it came form Japan and I was told you can't get them anymore? Thanks

looks like it could be a type of acanthastrea... of course 100 kind of coral look similar to that
 
No real way to identify a coral by photo alone since so many coral's grow in different pattern's upon the reef. But if I had to guess I would say micromussa, acan, something in that type of family beautiful coral though.

no matter what it's some sort of acan/favia/micromussa/etc-esque coral... they all have the same basic needs, should be fine as far as health is concerned

Agreed ^ just can't fully identify cause of the reason I stated but it is among that family and it look's really healthy too.

I think it is doing good too, I had it for about a year now. When I got it, it was like the size of a dime on that rock. The reason i ask its because I paid good money for it when it was that size. Its now almost covering that rock the pictures I took maybe two months ago now he is even biger. The LFS that sold it to me is out of businese he told me the name and I forgot about it. Like i said it is all most as big as that rock now and I put some other small rock around it hope that it will get on it. Do you guys think that will work?
 
sure... i started out with 2 mushroom polyps and now have like 25 over 5 different rocks... only difference is that you'll have to actually breaks yours if you want to spilt them up seeing as it's a hard coral
