Not sure if this is the proper place for this post, but I was netting fish at a local lake today and stumbled upon this "interesting" mass of snot. I did a quick google search and it seems to point to something(s) called a bryozoan, but I'd like someone to clarify if possible. It measured roughly 12"x15"x4". It seemed to be harder on the outside, with a soft gelatinous center.

I have no idea... it looks like something off of Star Trek. GL with the ID... it's definitely interesting!
 
I emailed the local fisheries biologist. I've sent the guy some odd requests, and he's been a good sport so far. We'll see how it goes :)
