Okay, over the last 2-3 days I have notices a "growth" on my driftwood and plants. I am assuming it is an algae of some type? Any suggestions on controlling this other then turning off the lights. This is a planted tank. These bad boys are about the size of a pencil earaser or a bit smaller.

That's the best kind of algae!!! Leave it! Others will say take it off but I love this kind, to each his own.

Yes, it's my favorite, too. Black beard algae. Let it grow in nice and thick in one spot and it will eat phosphates for you. And it looks like black fire when it sheens in the current.

It'll look real good in time.

^ completely agree. :D It will look great and serves a purpose at the same time. I have this kind of algae in my 125 and like the way it looks on all the wood. Don't really like it on the anubias though, I scrape it off the leaves.

huh, guess I'm just not a fan of any algae . . . I do get this from time-to-time, but my siamese algae eaters usually take care of it before it can develop much . . . gets on the fring of the anubias, but I've never seen it develop on driftwood

I just Googled it and it seems that people either love it or hate it. All of the pictues I can find of it look good so I think I am going to leave it and see how things develope.

I look a it like this, if your tank perams are better than most hobbiest's, DOC's are very low (nitrates etc..) anything that naturaly occures after that is up to my tank. Why try and fight a healthy system. :D
