recently added two bala sharks in with my GATF. About a week later i noticed one of the balas top fin looked weird, was all white with red at the base. Almost looked like the goliath took a bite so I wasnt alarmed at first. Been doing 20% water changes every 2nd day. Now about 2-3 days later I had to net the poor bala and euthanize him, had trouble swimming and hasnt been eating.
Currently in a 75g with very adequate filtration, soon to be transferred to a 180g once cycle is complete.
1 GATF
2 Bala sharks (1 remaining)
5 random tetras

What the hell happened and do I need to be worried about my GATF becoming infected??? What can I do to prevent further infections?? Dont see any issues with other fish, all appear and act normal
Please help me MFK!!!

heres a quick vid (First video) 2 days after the balas were added, no sign of any issues

And this was today, about a week later

Someone please help! I just transferred over from a 75g to a 180g and now my GATF looks infected :(
Stress must have got to him :(
Eats and acts normal so far...

It looks like a case of fin rot but im not entirely sure. He doesnt stay still long enough to snap a decent pic

I added some salt and increased temp to 82-84. Water changes done religously

Should I treat pimafix/melafix??? Or go straight to something stronger???

If I lose this guy I will be crushed :'(

Do the normal water tests and see if something is up.

Salt is a good start just not too much of course.

Parameters should be ok, used new water to fill the 180g, transferred the sand from the 75g and added more fresh sand i had pre washed ahead of time. Transferred my exsisting bio media to the 180 but I will go pick up a test kit after work today.
Ive been in the hobby for a few years now and have never encountered a problem before...

How much salt is recommended? I did a 50% WC lastnight and added abouy 1 tbsp per 5 gallons

If the bio is fully seeded then u should be good on the 180. Stress can cause thousands of illneses in fish, your gatf prlly stressed the balas and maybe took a bite out, id just leave him alone and quit adjusting everything, the more elements that change the worse off he is, lites off tblspn salt/5 gals. Ok thanks, ill leave the lights off for a few days. Should I be doing daily water changes?
Also should I add in pima/mela as extra precaution or wait till it gets worse? His tail fin looks milky and frayed. Also appears to be attacking other fins as well

Id do a 50% now make sure to match temp! And use dechlor if tap and well. After that maybe 20% every 2 days for a week or 2, watch levels and back to normal. Maybe more bio media and ditch w/e chem ur running now, vac if possible 50-60%

Just ran a water sample to the LFS. everything checks out good. Just fed and killed the lights. I did a 40-50% WC lastnight when I added salt so fingers crossed on a quick recovery
