I was at the LFS today and in with the pictus I saw this guy. He is about an inch and just cute as hell. They got two of them with a order of ghost shrimp so they have no idea what they are. An employee got one and I bought the other for $2.99 (catfish lover I am I had to have it).

My luck it is a monster LOL I know catfish are touch and go and a risk of having a monster one is a reality. I have him in a 10gl with my male betta for now because I think my pims would eat this guy he is to small in the 55gl.

I need to figure out what kind it is and what I am facing to decide if he is a keeper and if he is future housing arrangements LOL

looks kinda like an anorexic speckled bullhead to me but it's hard to tell in those pics...they can get upwords of 18" but i've heard of a few getting as big as 24"

on planetcatfish.com someone thinks it may be a brown bullhead

I agree it is a bullhead.... just which one.

The markings on this one seem very close

Now if this is a native cat, and I am guessing tropical temp of 80F may be to much for this guy? He is in a 10gl with a heater that sticks at 80F, my 55gl that he will go into soon and the 75gl eventually will be around 78F, seems these types of cats like 75F tops....

that can be an issue..... I have tropicals :(

Now if this is the cat that gets to about 11" I have some thinking to do LOL He is gonna have to live with a common pleco in a 75gl and eventually my pims will have to stay away from this guy cause he could eat them, they are topping out at 6-7"

hmmmm!

Pretty tough to tell at that size. Black Bullheads look exactly like that at that size.

I agree that I am gonna have to wait until it is a bit bigger to be sure.

What should I feed it? I feed the betta in there flakes two times a day (1 flake each time) I have small sinking pellets I feed my meat eaters in the 55gl. they are small, would that work? also a blood worm here and there could be an option

our lfs gets them with the ghost shrimp alot, i snag them every time lol. Mine are always the spotted bullheads.

also i feed mine flakes, bloodworms, beefheart, they love that, and they even eat those algae waffers, shrimp.. anything really lol

also, id be careful, they can be real bullies sometime, mine tore up a betta

Thanks, I worry more now about Bubbles the Betta tearing up the bullhead he is so dang small. He needs to grow just a tad and I will feel more safe sticking him in the 55gl.

Can't go wrong with blood worms and crushed krill!
