I have a 90 gallon tank that stays filthy. I did a 70% water change and with in 1 week the tank has a Amazon water color to it. I can run 3 packets of purigen and it barely makes a difference (the purigen does change color). Also "stuff" piles up in a corner behind a second piece of drift wood. The main piece looks fuzzy and if I push water over my tank gets filled with "debris". My filter is a emperor 400 and the pads get completely covered in under a week. The wood came from a friend and he never had a problem. What is going on my 125 cichlid tank with 20 5ich cichlids and that tank stays cleaner.

The tank has a very large piece of drift wood, the stock is 6 rio something (lost the bag that had the name) slightly under 2 inches a 5inch black ghost knife 8 or so jewel cichlids 2inches and under and a royal pleco 3 inches.

Needs more filter and flow and doing more waterchanges each week

Your driftwood is leeching tannins into your water and possibly creating dead spots of circulation. The white fuzzy stuff is normal. Scrub the dw with a brush. I use a dish brush. I clean all my dw once a month or when I rearrange my tank.
