what is water hardness/softness?

and what do i want my water to be?

any help would be great

ive asked a lot of people and have gotten different answers

Water hardness refers to the mineral content in any water. Different areas have different water hardness. In hard water areas - generally your kettle will be white inside and caked with limescale etc.

What you need depends on your tank and you fish as different fish need or can tolterate different requirements.

Some chemicals are intended for hard water while others are not. The same can go for certain species of fish that are very sensitive to water quality. But you can pick up a hardness water test kit at your local Wal mart.......
