Something is wrong with my RTC's gills. They seem to be slowly shrinking at a certain point almost as if to make way for the pectoral fins. Both sides are exactly the same. Is this normal. If not, what can I do? All the other fishes in the tank are fine. It seems to have stopped eating as well. Water condition is tip top. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Water params? Tankmates picking on him?

If I were you I would check out some information on gill curl, I'm not exactly sure what to do about it besides keep the water params pristine, but thats the only thing that comes to mind.

Come on guys. Bump.

Isa, please answer the quote above. This will get you better answers than assumptions.

Temp: 28C
Nitrite: 0.3mg/L
Nitrate: 25mg/L
pH: 6.5 - 7.0
Ammonia: 0.0mg

Anything I missed out?

I watch my tank for hours everyday, no fights at all. No sharp objects either.

Does your nitrate usually stay at 25ppm? If so how long has it been at that lvl? Thats mildly high, not dangerous in short terms but I've heard long time exposure to levels over 15ppm can cause damage. Just throwin out more ideas..I'm not to sure what you got going...

Free bump for ya also, hope ya get thigns figured out.

It's been 25ppm for about 3 weeks I think. Would that be too long?

How do I decrease the nitrate levels?

Nitrite is not right. You have to do water changes to keep it at zero.

Alright, I'll do just that and see how it goes. Thank you (=
