What is wrong with my gar?

why does my gar keeps doing this? Is it because stress? He is starting to rub a sore on his nose and i dont know what to do to keep him cool.

is he a new fish to the tank? also, what size is the fish and what size is the tank?

yes relatively new he is the newest fish but he has been in there for about a month now. 300 80x24x36

What's on the other side of the glass, it looks like it's trying to get at something. I would put some fake plants on that side to try to distract him from trying to swim into that corner.

Weird my Florida did it for the first few days, but stopped. My Shortnose did it too, but with alot more vigor and I got worried so just like the suggestion before I put some fake plants to distract him. I used those vine suction cup plants that you can stick to the side of the tank so I could totally cover it up. Since then he's stopped doing it and my minds more at ease. I think mine did it because there's a tank that runs parrallel to his tank so he just thought he could just keep going. Lol!

Does he do it with the lights off in the room? in the same spot? and post a full tank shot.(just cause i want to see a purty 300g)

have you tested your water parameters lately? gars tend to do this when: (1) the water params are poor, (2) they are stressed.

so check your params, if that's not the case, it might be due to stress. try adding some cover as Kolt said. reducing the amount of light the tank recieves may also help.
