My oscars are about 7 months old and healthy, but they lay around all the time. The swim sometimes but when i turn on the light and watch them they just float to the bottom and lay on their side like a flounder. Its odd. Anybody else have this problem? Mine may just be lazy.

Oscars tend to pout and lay on their sides. Did you change their decor or diet? They usually pout when something changes. I moved around the furniture in the room his tank is in, and he pouted for a few days.

Please discrible your setup, like what size tank, kind of filtration, any tankmates? Also do you test your water? And if so what are your numbers like? Yes oscars do pout and sulk a lot, some more than others, but we should rule out any other causes first and getting these answers will help to do that.

There are a lot of reasons an Oscar will be lazy... it could be fat and happy... it could be miserable and dying...

Tell us about your set up and maintenance schedule and we will probably be able to help you identify what's going on...

Mine does this whenever I move him to another tank. I check to make sure he isn't dead multiple times every time I acclimate him :screwy:

He likes to sit around after I feed him and he gets a pot belly too

Water parameters, please!

Mine sulk when they are moved too...

But they sulk the same way when they are suffering from ammonia poisoning or any number of other ailments...

Giving the OP the impression it is no big deal without knowing any details of his situation is unfair. Since the OP cares enough to ask... we should care enough to gather enough information to make a personal assesment...

Well its a 50 gal tank with an AQ 110 and a bio-wheel 100. It has river rocks on the bottom, and it had a piece of driftwood in it until i took it out a few days ago. So now the bottom is just rocks, but they have been like this since they basically started growing. They are around 7 months old now.

I do not test my water. Sorry. I think im going to have to add it to my routine though. Some of you may be following my dirty tank thread.

Well your filtration sounds good and tank size. Do you have any tankmates in with him? And what's your tank cleaning schedule? Without the results for your water its impossible to know for sure. Maybe you could tank a water sample to your LFS and ask for the actual numbers. Most will just say ok well your water looks good, but be sure to ask for the numbers. Hopefully he is not sick, but a test kit will help you to maintaine good water for him!
