So i have a new 30 gallon setup with a sweet filter, so i'm not to worried about that. What i'm concerned about is the types of fish and layout i have in the tank. So i will go through and explain what i have.

Fish:
Jack Dempsey
Male and Female Kenyi
Green terror
Turquoise Severum
Tbarb Convict
Electric Yellow
Small Red Crab

Here is a picture of the setup.

your stock is no good with your size tank. cant say for the crab or africans (electric yellow and kenyi). the only fish that will fit in your tank for life is the convict. the green terror, severum and dempsey are highly unsuitable for your tank due to their large sizes. they all need a 55 to themselves.
what is a Tbarb convict? or is that supposed to be 2 different fish?

Well I can surely say that you indeed do have problems. For the type of fish you have the set-up is wrong too.

You need to decide whether you want an african, central american or a part filled crab tank.

30gal is pretty small, for aggressive cichlid standards anyway. You could probably get away with keeping a lone convict in there.

If it were me i'd set-up that tank as a breeding tank for a pair of firemouth, or a species of the archocentrus genus.

As far as the layout goes i'd prefer to do some sand in there. In my opinion, african and american cichlids seem to do better with sand. Ever since I tried sand I have always favoured it.

Get some driftwood and some smaller river stone scattered around the tank. If you ever get the chance do a search for Nutty's tank. That is a prime example of aquascaping to the fishes needs IMO.

Hope that helps just a little.

^ Agree with all above...

The other option that you do have is to get a bigger tank - if that is an option.

You don't want Africans with your Americans. The water needs are completely different and believe it or not but Africans will kill much bigger Americans because they communicate differently when they fight. (If you can understand what I mean)

African chiclids are best kept all on there own in a tank with lots of rocks and hiding places

O and that tank is way small for all those fish.

I agree. When fighting with one another the two types of fish flare fins and gills differently, telling the other fish something different then what they mean.

See, one of the biggest noob mistakes I made was mixing African's with my CA's.

But, I had the opposite effect - my ca's either killed the ones that went in or they became totally docile.

Have learned though and gave them all way (well all but my small jewels)

Well as you see there are definitely a few problems and some potential problems. You will need to do more research on the fish before you buy. Do you plan on getting another bigger tank? If so you can grow out the JD, GT and severum and then move them. Otherwise look into getting rid of these fish.
