What is wrong with this tegu?

What are those cheek pouches? Is it just fat, or something else? :confused:

Oh, ok. Never seen that before, but then again, I have never had a tegu. What is the purpose of the "cheek jowels"?
 
Thouse big sheeks are comon in many lizard species: tegus,lacertids, agamids, iguanids,etc and are more proiminent in big older males, the reason why they have them is basicly to say "look at me girls, Im a big strong macho lizard and Im the best mate you can find here":naughty::naughty: Its a secundary sexual caracteristic that female lizards use to select a big healty father for their eggs:D
