I am using it currently to help cure some fins up (Melafix) And I was curious if it was a viable medication should I need it for its stated purposes later on? Anyone have good or bad experience with this product?

Thanks everyone ,

It is good for Q tanks before you introduce fish and treating a fungus/bacteria just as it's noticed. But for severe cases, I usually prefer other meds.

I agree with Camshaft. For preventative use or if you just noticed new damage to your fish it seems pretty good. A developed infection generally needs something stronger.

I always have some on hand as treating with the pond strength is much cheaper and less hassle that dosing conventional meds.

I use it for new fish with no signs of sickness. But I have never had it heal a sick or damaged fish with signs of infection. If your fish has torn fins and no infection, I would just do daily water changes and keep some salt in there. The mela might help as well but adding it daily after each change might get expensive. But if the fish has fin rot and they have started to turn white then it needs antibiotics. Just my .02

I used melafix successfully on my paratilapia. During their "dormant" times, they would develop "bedsores" from lying on the rocks all day long. It seemed to start working right away, too.

Thumbs up! I feel plenty better about using the all natural ingredients on Melafix and Pimafix. It's even safe in much higher doses, as far as I've experienced.

Melafix can also be found in Marine Formula. It is 1.5% Meluca instead of 1%.

Bacterial and Fungal can be very similar in appearance, and while I'm not sure what the manufacturers would say, I've dosed both products many times without any ill effects.

I only wish that I could buy it with higher concentrations.

buy the pond Melafix it's 5% and the pond Pimafix it'e 2 1/2% they both cost a little more but you treat 5x more water with the Melafix and double with the Pimafix.

I think the Melafix is used to help keep a wound from getting infected. Ive used it and havent any complaints. I also though have read somewhere that these two products deplete the oxygen content in your water. So be careful with that.

Good luck
John

Two thumbs up I love it. Saved my Oscars.
