Hello all. I'm working on fixing up a 65 (36x18 footprint, forget the exact height) and I'm looking into doing my first discus tank! I have higher PH and was just wondering what PH can be tolerated. So please, enlighten me on your ph!

My domestics do fine in a constant ph of 7.4 .

If these are captive bred discus (as I never tried wild caught ones), they should be fine with your pH.

Well, I havent even looked at any discus. My opinion on keeping fish is finding what do well in your current water conditions. So, now that I know that captive bred discus will be ok in a higher ph, I will continue my further research on care. So far, the little info I gathered is that they are social fish so in my 65g I should try to start with 6 fish. They need feed multiple times a day, which depend on the age of the fish and require frequent (possibly daily) water changes. How am I doing so far?

Feeding multiple times a day applies more on juveniles. They're prone to stunting as evident with several cases involving disproportionately large eyes, football shapes and other irregularities.

You're doing just fine so far.:) If you have any more questions, ask away. Better ask than never and end up committing mistakes at the cost of your fish.

Thanks Lupin! I'll have to do a little searchin aroudn my lfs and see what they have, and first, get a stand built for my tank!

I'd get discus from breeders if I were you.

Give local breeders a shot if any. Their fish would be accustomed to similar water conditions as you have which makes things a lot easier for you.
