Yes there is, there is two kinds of pure Texas Cichlids herichthys carpintis and herichthys cyanoguttatus. Easiest way to tell is the pearling on the fish, cyano has smaller pearling than carpintis.

Chris. I just didn't realize that their patterns were so easily identified after being hybridized. But now that you mention it, it is recognizable.

That's not necessarily true. If you look at virgils texas jaguar hybrid, you'd probably guess the father was carpintis not texas.
