I am curious to know what kind of algae eater I can get for my nephews goldfish tank? There is no heater, only because I was on a budget setting up his aquarium, but full of fancy goldfish and comet goldfish. The only thing I was able to find through my own research was cold water snails. Would those work? Where would I be able to find them? Any better suggestions?

If it doesn't get cooler than about 70F you might be able to get away with a common pleco. They are an invasive pest in places where the water temp drops below "tropical" and seem to survive. just a thought.

You could try Hong Kong plecos I regularly see them in with goldfish in shops , they can go in temps as low as 65 , there only small but a few would do the job rather than a big common there ammonia machines eventually

If it's a small tank I would stick with nerite snails. I have 1 in my 5g and 4 in my 35g and those tanks are spotless.

What's the tank size? Some plecos will suck on the goldfishes side so I'd be more inclined to do nerite snails like mentioned above.

This may be off topic, but algae should not be your primary concern if you have multiple goldfish in a 10 gallon tank, goldfish get large quick and are really messy eaters.

When I said "it's full of" I didn't mean that the tank is over stocked at all. There are 2 small fancy goldfish and 4 comet goldfish. I do realize that goldfish get large and eat a lot. That is why I am the one taking care of the tank. My nephew just likes to look at it. Lol
