What do you mean by stained ? Im thinking cloudy
I use purigen but needed to recharge it hopefully it helps

Boil your driftwood for at least 20 minutes the longer the better to take out all the initial tannish, i don't mind the tannish color effect though, it give more nature feel to my planted tank and my fish love it :D.

Im in the same boat, its a dingy teawater look but its closer to what its like in nature so Im ok with it.
 
Its kind of cloudy and stained. I removed the peice in the second pic even though it was the best looking. Its lighter than the other two and as a milky look to it. Did a large wc too so we'll see
