I ordered 2 canister filters and thinking of getting another one..
Currently using a whisper in-tank filter 40i
3/4 filled.

but what do you use?
And can you tell me what mechanical media you're using? I have been getting info. that turtles will clog it really fast!

My old canister filter died last month. So I've been changing the water everyday in my Stinkpot's tub. It's not really that big a deal because he's so small. But I plan on buying another canister filter pretty soon. I'd love a Fluval FX5 Canister Filter, but they're so expensive and I don't really need something that powerful. I was also looking at the Rena FilStar XP Series Canister Filters.

i am running a emperor 400 and 280 that are just like anyother hang on tank filters with bio wheels and im running a magnum canister that the intake is down to the gravel. so for a 55gal tank i have filtration for about a 200gal, its a lil excess but i hate to see filters just sitting around collecting dust when i can put them to use. all that filter water pressure is why i have the outlets droping over rocks so it doesnt make a current for them. and i change about 90% water twice a week...

yeah, I'm thinking of ordering the XP1 too.

hey viced, is your turtle tank filled to the top? since wolf told me that bio-wheels don't work well in half-filled tanks..

also, vicious, what was your canister filter..and the cause of it breaking?
how well did it work in a half-filled turtle tank? also, what was the distance between the filter and the tank?

Mine was some old in-tank Whisper Canister filter. It got knocked of the counter when I was cleaning it and the casing split, whoops!

My turtle is in a 30 gallon rubbermaid tub and it's filled half way which is less then a foot of water. With hanging filters, the closer they are to the water, the better they work. So they aren't always the best choice if you have a low water level in your tank.

yeah..i'm trying to get higher water but then..he won't be able to breathe by stretching his neck when he's on the submerged rock..
I think 12" out of 16" is the highest I can get it at..
