I'm starting a small project tank of only 15 gallons. I was wondering what filter should I use. As I will be trying to breed fish, I want to over-filtrate as much as I can without causing a storm in the tank. I was thinking external canister like a eheim 2015 or aqua compact 60, any thoughts?

well i would use a power filter that hangs on the tank. something that turns the water over between 15 times an hour. an eheim would be great for you, but it might be an over-investment. but eheim rocks so...lol!!!! its a toss up i suppose. i would get the power filter though.

If you are going to be breeding fish in a small tank you might as well just use a sponge filter. A power filter will suck up the fry unless you put a sponge on the intake tube.

Sponge filter. An aquaclear 50 would overfilter a 15 and should work out pretty well. Kens fish has them cheap.

Thks for all the replies, unfortunately we dun have any lfs where I come frm who sell aquaclear 50. Hmmmm, would any hang on filter do?
