just wondering what kind of filtration prevents murkiness or cloudyness in the water?
i assume logically its mechanical but it seems like a lotta ppl fill their sumps with bio balls and a really thin layer of mechanical filtration and their tanks are crystal clear. so im a lil confused? which kinda filtration is the one that makes ur water as clear as drinkng water?

I have a few tanks with very little mechanical filtration

The most important part of filtration is biological.

hrmm ya my sump is also filled with 90 percent pot scrubbers but my tank gets cloudy from time to time. im wondering what kinda filtration will take away the cloudyness? is it the bio or the mechanical?

Depends on what the murky / cloudiness is caused from...Particulate matter (dead or non-organic material) or Biological matter (algae).

Either way a Diatom filter will work if used properly. (usually on ebay for $70-$100.)

But first I would catch the water coming out of your filter to see if it's there or being produced in the tank.

If it's coming out of the filter, try a finer filter material under your mat. that your using now. (Do be careful that the filter doesn't overflow if the finer mat. gets clogged).

Keep us posted.
