Hey, stupid question, but was wondering what kind of fish could i keep in a 55 gallon that I could grow large enough to make somewhat of a profit or breed.

I figured I should probably try to make some profit anyway possible while I try to find a job that hires 15 year olds so I can invest my money on a good deal for a 150+ gallon fish tank on craigslist or something. Or at least 100 gallon.

Probably not many options huh...

Well, any ideas would be highly appreciated.
I have a 10 gallon, 20 gallon, 29 gallon, and 55.
10 and 20 are empty,
29 has some plants and some tetras
55 has an ornate bichir

Some ideas given out to me were to grow the bichir for a while to like 12-14 inches and then sell for like 60 - 70 bucks (any tips on how to make it grow super fast would be awesome)
sell the 10 and 20 gallon for something (never know when I'll need them tho)
29 sell everything (doubt anyone will want tetras or plants, but for store credit?)

My parents arn't exactly the most supportive of the hobby and they are making me spend my own money for it, so they arn't an option to turn to for money.

I have 22 bucks in my pocket right now, but it will go up little by little with the extra cash I save from movies; etc

Sorry im so noob :\

The profit you get depends on Law of Supply and Demand.

you could probably make a tidy sum off of endlers or guppies as they breed like crazy and shops are usually crying out for cheap bulk endler or guppy supplies. if you can find a shop to take them that is. in the UK its not a problem but im unsure in the US. but for a quick buck i think live bearers are probably your best bet. as you have a few empty small tanks they are probably ideal.

Or angel fish ;)

Another good selection would be some geophagus or gymnogeos ;) They are on the rise again ;) But to get in on the action you will likely need to find a breeding pair or group ;)

Longfin bristlenose plecos go for good money. Not very difficult to breed either. Demand is high for some reason even though everyone seems to have them now.

You know, convict cichlids breed like crazy. They also sell for about 50 cents a peice around here at about 1.5 inches to the mom and pop stores. Try going around, and seeing who will take what. 50 babies brings $25, so you do the math....lol

I'd do sals for something cool and a fish that you could profit...most 2" specimens go from 10-25$.

i know that my boss pays 60 bucks for a box of "feeder guppies" then sells them at 1.50 a dozen. i think there are around 1000 in a box, so a 55 gallon tank, like 40 guppies and about a month later, you get the idea.

I went that way for almost two weeks in my 55...I like my fish to interact a lot with me and not eat 4 dollar tetra's by the dozen.:nilly:
