What kind of Fish Hobbyist are you?

I’m not closed minded into the specific type species tank. Unlike a few who believe that America’s should not be mixed w/Africans or Asians. To me whatever floats your boat and whatever it is you enjoy then be it. That is why I gave up on my African species tank. So many other species I enjoy.

I know a few hobbyists are in it to try to breed the species they keep, or try to buy it cheap just to try to sell it for profit. Then there are those who just hoard every single species. I just like to keep fish period. For whatever reasons I may come across as to the
Next person I really don’t care.

I enjoy this hobby a lot and am pretty fortunate to have kept the species I have in such a short period of time. It’s not even really about being able to afford the fish but basically making friends w/the right people and being thought of when the opportunity presented itself. I made a few friends on these fish boards that I do consider my friends. Then there are those who hate. For whatever reason’s I have no idea. But last night I was talking to a friend and could not believe the drama that a few people have. First of all I’m not into the drama and B/S that’s about FISH! I have enough drama at home w/my kids.

First off… I could care less if you memorized every single Latin name for every specie of fish. To be able to name a fish in it’s Latin name but has never kept one that is not impressive to me. I am not interested in learning the freaking Latin name of the fish I keep. I’m not trying to be an ICHTHYOLOGIST or anything close to it. I understand if you are in the business or if this is your line of work than it’s a must. But for a group of guys who are just plain ass fish store hopping hobbyist, who gives a rat’s ass…LOL

I guess all the weekends you were studying all these Latin names I was out partying and clubbing w/women back in the day…hahahaha….

Seriously though, who gives a rat’s ass if you can name the fish in its Latin/Scientific name? Is that supposed to be impressive??? Show me a 2 foot long Goliath ATF, a tank full of Asian Red Aro’s, a 1000 gallon home made tank, a room full of rare fish. That is what’s impressive to me.

It’s one thing to talk **** about someone you have never met nor spoken to. But when it’s the same circle, that **** talk will make it’s way back to that person. So for the idiot who was talking **** about me…(you know who you are cause you visit here) you better hope I don’t catch your ass at the LFS or out on the street, because you better be ready to back your **** talking up!

At the end of the day…it’s all about FISH.

I guess some people just needs a life outside of the hobby…

i hear ya man, theres some "bichers" on here that bug me to lol

save the drama for your mama....gotta ignore the haters!

attracts you to the hobby. :headbang2

It's just funny how some people believe that in order to be a true hobbyist you have to know the latin names of the species.....LOL

If that what get's you off than be it. But don't think you know more than the next just by knowing how to pronounce the name. ...it's amusing to me pare.

I hear ya.:headbang2
I just want to sit back and enjoy my fish.
I want to get advice, not hear critizism.

You get a lot of regurgitated information on these boards. One month a guy will come on with his first tank of convicts........three months later he is giving advice on stingrays and arros, he never kept them, but he can certainly give out advice. Too much wikipedia and reading other people's posts.

Look for people who have been on a short time and have 1000's of posts, they are the offenders.

To me critizism is good. I'll post pix's and I can expect a response wether you like it or not. Everyone is not going to agree on the same thing. There is a difference between constructive critism and talking smack.

Yeah...you're right.
Sometimes I think that those who are always saying, "You need a bigger tank" are those who can afford or already have a "bigger" tank. Example...I think that a 75g will be perfectly fine for an Oscar where I've seen people here saying, "You need at least a 125g for an Oscar":screwy:
