What kind of fish is this?

I was out throwing the casting net tonight. I was curious what this fish was, because I had never seen one before. It's about three inches long. Thanks.

Yep it's a log perch.It's the biggest darter. They make great aquarium fish. They use their nose to flip over rocks and things in search of food.
 
Thanks. I tried looking at a distribution map and it doesn't appear it's supposed to be in the part of Kansas I found it. I was wanting to keep it. Should I report it to the Kansas wildlife and parks?
 
You're a goof. Did you even really read the link you posted? It doesn't have logperch darter listed. I guess you could be one of those people that gets pleasure out of suggesting someone is doing something wrong.

yes, I read it. " Logperches represent a unique subgroup of darters" is the first line on the page... and the title of the page is LOGPERCHES...
