i got this fish yesterday and i have no idea what it is i was told it is some kind of cichlid. manganeuse? wolf? it is about 6 in long 2 in tall and like 1/2 in thick. kind of a greenish gray blue color body and a black horizontal line on its top. has a large head and very big mouth. in my opinon it looks like some kind of bass or cross bread. i tried to post some pic let me know what you think it is.

Reminds me of a large malawi hap. Not sure which one though.

i agree, like some kind of dimidiochromis. where did you get it? lol i'm glad i'm not the only one having trouble identifying what i bought :D

I agree 100% with the above, it is African rift lake species of some sort. I will get this moved over to that section for you to get an accurate ID. I can assure you that is not from the Parachromis genus (the jag and wolf you mention).

well i traded a guy some aquarium decor and filters for a pacu, red devil, 2 pleco, pair m/f white convicts, this guy, and a cool jack dempsey. he had Parana and large pacus and also a ton of diff cichlids. got this guy cuz it looks like a bass and i havent ever seen one like it. and thanks for i identified him i will most likely have more for you guys to identify in the future.

It's definitely an A. chrystii or a hybrid variation of one. The melanin pattern and hump on it's nose are indicators.

I agree, that black bar starting just aft of the head and trailing toward the back is a good indicator, along with the hump in the snout,of a A.christyi but it also could be a Tyranocromis of some type.
