what kind of foam?

what kind of foam does everyone use? was looking at some of the arts and crafts stores and even the dreaded walmart. i dont see any real open cell foam. just some stuff used for cushions. is this aquarium safe? they have all types hypo-alergenic, non-alergenic, and poly-something-r-other. will polyester or cotton batting be a good prefilter for a sump?

what do you use as a pre and post bioball filter in your sumps?

i use AC vent filters, come in giant rools for cheep. same stuff as you pay real money for.

I use polyester cushons, they work great and are cheap. I would stay away from cotton

It will rot as it is an organic fiber. Polyester is inert in water and won't break down.

just wondering, what is wrong with cotton?

it's natural (a plant); breaks down, decomposes will actually enter your system and so-on.

Poly is plastic; inert, has no leaching effect & does not decompose.
