I was away for two weeks and upon my return one of my gold wolffish had several fungus-like growths on his body. Approx. a week and a half before I left I noticed one of them forming so I turned up the heat and added some salt and melafix. It looked like the growth was going away before I left but when I got back it was worse. He was in with 2 other gold wolffish, 1 rainbow wolffish and 2 bichirs. None of them have any of his symptoms. He is currently by himself in a hospital tank being treated. Does anyone know what these growths are?

That is some scary stuff. Not fungus at all. I would actually try to dab something on it. Maybe even perform some kind of surgury even.

Are you serious, bro? Ok, what kinda anestesia/tranquilizer do I use to subdue him because he is aggro! I don't know if you can see the damage on his face but he did that the first night I put him in the quarantine tank. Had to put a 30lb bag on top to keep him from bursting through the lid. he definitely ain't gonna let me dab all those spots while he is conscious.
He is still eating and swimming around normally. He was still ruling the tank until I took him out. What were you suggesting I dab on him? Maybe I can add it to the water.

If it is a fungus like saprolegnia, any formalin or malachite green based treatment should work. Although it doesn't have the cottony appearance (at least that I can see) one associates with fungus.
It almost looks like fibroma, normally associated with anglefish.
This is believed to be cause by a retrovirus, and is sometimes called an odontogenic harmartomass. If you can get to a library and find "Self-Assessment Color Review of Ornamental fish" by Gregory A. Lewbart, there is a photo on page 9, you could see if it matches. This book is put out by the North Carolina State University of Veterinary Medicine.
But if it is like the pic, and it's viral, other than surgery, there is nothing to be done but isolate the fish and let it run its course.

Dayuuum...that's mighty bleek, bro. :(

I'll try and find that book or at least pics of the condition. I hope its cureable. Even though he is a jerk and bully to his tankmates I don't wanna lose the big guy. thanks man.

My big wolfie is still in the hospital tank and still has the nasty stuff on him. The growths have grown a bit bigger are darker in color but the fish is still very active. Someone please help.

Man I would definitely advise against surgery if you don't know what you are doing... that just isn't wise!

It doesn't look like a fungus at all to me... more like a tumor-like growth from bacteria/virus?

Good luck!!!
