i have a slow leak on my tank(only leaks when more then half full),and my DAD is wondering if we can use something besides the aqaurium glue they sell at fish stores?he is thinking the stuff people use in bathrooms, silicone or something.it is only a 29 gallon.thanks for the help.

very important! only use fish safe glues and sealants in your tank. other glues can release harmful chemicals into the water over time and kill your fish. in my opinion the best 2 choices are 100% silicone aquarium sealant ( you can find it in a fosters and smith catalog for $8 for a caulk gun sized tube) orthere is a 2 part epoxy that cures underwater (also from fosters and smith) they must say "aquarium safe" or you run a risk of killing your fish.

the epoxy is easier to use than the silicone

Do not use bathroom or RV silicones or caulkings, they can kill your fish.

The best thing to do is.(I take it is leaking from the seals had has no cracks?) Empty the water
Remove old sealant with a razor blade (might want dad to do this.) Prepare the seam. I use a alcohol wipe to remove oil etc can use damp rag. It is essential that the area be extremely clean and completely dry!!!!!!!!!
silicone sealer make sure the packaging plainly states that the product is safe for aquarium/fish . Allow to cure I would leave 7 days there you have it new sealed tank
