Was just curious of what lighting you guys were using on your ray setups.

as of right now i am using 2-36" coralife 50/50 bulbs :D tho i was thinking of reducing it down to 1 36" bulb right in the middle :D :headbang2

I have 8'x4'x2' tanks. I use standard shop lights that have two 40 watt bulbs. I put 2 over the front area of the tank and one over the back on each setup. The bulbs are 48" long. I can't remember the brand name, but they are made for fish tanks. I use one white bulb and one saltwater blue in each shoplight. I like the effect of the blue on the motoro's spots.

Thanks for the info! i was thinking of cutting down on my lighting but i know once i put a more natural sand in the tank it will help it be a tad dimmer.

Kinda off subject but....

Ive seen photos of rays that appear to be "sunbathing" in shallow water in the wild. Do you guys think that this is a natural part of their behavior that some how should be replicated in the aqurium/pond? I wonder if these batman defects are caused by lack of UVA/UVB rays and beneficial heat as I would imagine it would be good for a pregnant female to sunbath.

Of course it could also just happen that they were in shallow water for no reason!!

Well in the shallow water it would be warmer, not just necesarily sunbathining. Whereas it would be much cooler in the deeper water. That would be my guess as to why they are found in the shallows, that and their prey my reside more in shallow water. Plus I keep my tanks at 84*F-85*F so I think that would be plenty warm for rays.

As far as lighting on my ray tank. I just a 40w slyvania 4' flourescent light fixture like what you would use in a house.

I just use one flourescent tube, thats it. Light isn't that important so i dont see the point in having fancy lighting.
