Has anyone come across using these medias before or know what they are call? I’m guessing these are old school bio balls but no idea what they are and my question is, should i replace them to bioballs?

heres pics of the media and in the sump… I hope for some feedbacks, thanks everyone

Very similar to the biomedia below, colonizing space inside and out.

It can be used as wet dry, submerged, even fluidized (if you have sufficient flow) doesn't really matter, just as you can use lava rock, ceramic rings, crushed oyster or sea shells (if you want to add buffering capacity) old hair curlers, even old tooth brushes. No better/no more efficient.
They all accomplish the same thing, they are a surface for beneficial bacteria to colonize.

I agree with the above and would definitely use that biomedia that you already have. I personally have Bio Balls and some are submerged. Also have Plastic Pot Scrubbies and Ceramic Rings in a wet/dry tower sump.
